Happiness was in the air at the Night of Happiness!

On Saturday 27th of October the Night of Happiness took place at the pub Seiklusjutte Maalt ja Merelt. The purpose of the event was to introduce the possibilities in the Bank of Happiness and spend a great night listening to great music.
On behalf of the Bank of Happiness, we would like to thank all who were able to attend the Night of Happiness despite of the snowy weather. Thank you! :)

The Swing of Happiness in Saaremaa

There are more registered activities on the islands than there are on the mainland for the project Teeme Ära that takes place on May 1. The Bank of Happiness as one of the seven organizers of Teeme Ära is supporting one of the activities in Saaremaa, building the Swing of Happiness in Undva village. The leader of the activity Anneli Teppo believes that you don't need much to be happy, swinging in the moonlight you forget the problems that the recession has caused, the world seems a friendlier place and you feel happier. The Bank of Happiness gives recognition to those who take part in the activity by giving them a Star of Gratitude and hopes they will continue to do good in the future.

In addition to the locals, many people on their summer holidays are taking part in the activity, as well as a group of Chinese people who are in Saaremaa at the time. People who are helping with the building of the Swing of Happiness are offered soup and homemade pastries. In the evening they can enjoy the sauna and the performances by several musicians.

"Teeme Ära" 2010

This year’s „Teeme Ära“ event takes place on Saturday, May 1

The civic initiative called Teeme Ära has this year organized a voluntary workday which takes place on Saturday, May 1. On that day every Estonian is welcome to organize and take part of different activities and finish them together.

The activities can be anything from cleaning the park or the swinging field to helping to set up a greenhouse for a grandmother. You can register your idea on the website www.teemeara.ee where it’s visible for others as well.

On their website you can see what activities people in different places in Estonia are organizing. On April 1 you can pick an option that’s closest to your heart and register yourself and your friends or family. Since the project Teeme Ära is well-known and popular, the chance of finding helpers is very high.

So think what needs to be done, register it on www.teemeara.ee and wait for the help.

Registration takes place from March 4 until April 30.

If you have the will and some ideas how to help others and create a better society, good works and people who need help meet at any time in the Bank of Happiness!

We carry out some modifications in order to effectively communicate throughout the Bank of Happiness activities in Estonia, and also offer information to supporters who speak English.

Thus, we have created a new Bank of Happiness groups, which meets our objectives. The current group will be closed and we ask all to join the new group.

Bank of Happiness gathers supporters

A film crew from the Netherlands came to Tallinn in mid-December and collected material for a documentary about the economic crisis and how the whole world is looking for the offender.

The work and deeds done by the Bank of Happiness were also filmed.
For example, their meeting in The New World Community House and an interview given to Nõmme Radio were filmed.
While others are frustrated, Estonians are organizing a “revolution” by creating a bank which promotes gratitude. Politician Ken-Martti Vaher commented about the actions of the Bank of Happiness in this film, calling it a very good idea and expressing comprehensive favor.

The film was on the air in the evening of 1st March on “Tegenlicht” a broadcast in the Netherlands.
After the show the Bank of Happiness received many warmhearted letters from the Dutch. They acclaim the idea and wish that they would have a similar bank in the Netherland. Here are some of comments from the letters we have recieved:

"Yesterday, when I saw this program on TV, tears came into my eyes, seeing that I'm not the only one who wants a life and a community based on love, social responsibility and gratefulness. I just want to say "it's amazing what you are doing" (Pacale Martina Blöte).

"...to do something for your fellow man without asking something back, free of charge! Wonderful. I think that’s the only way to get us out of the worldwide crisis of capitalism. Time for wisdom (Frans Houbraken).

We are very glad to hear that so many people in the Netherlands like the idea and that they have offered their help. At this time it is possible to use our website only in Estonia. We wish to spread all over the world but time and human resources (also money) set the limits at this moment. Estonians to lauch world’s first e-Bank of Happiness

Soon everyone can exchange good deeds in the Õnnepank - world’s first e-Bank of Happiness.

The goal of the bank is to promote the idea of doing good deeds …for free. Bringing together those who are in need of help and those who can help. In the e-bank one can exchange information on needs, offer help and register good deeds. For every good deed you get a Star of Gratitude and the person with the biggest number of Stars … will become one of the happiest in the world.
